At a time when Quebec should be turning to public transit to fight climate change, our leaders are doing exactly the opposite.

On Wednesday, the STM announced an increase in public transit fares. Today we learn that SAAQ will reduce registration fees by 35% starting in 2016.

These changes are purely ideological, and are aligned with the vision of our elected officials; a continuation of the use of the auto-solo and a reduction in transit company budgets.

The Green Party of Quebec proposes to follow the example of many Quebec municipalities that have abolished public transit fares to promote use of the service.

A major shift towards public transit is possible if we exert our political weight.

Leader of the Quebec Green Party
