On this Monday, April 20, the Green Party of Quebec reiterates its support for cannabis legislation and the pursuit of a non-criminal approach to the problems of illicit substance use.
"The time has come for the Quebec government to follow the example of many American states, such as Colorado, Washington and Alaska, which have all passed legislation to legalize the production, sale and consumption of cannabis," said Alex Tyrrell, leader of the Quebec Green Party.
"Not only will cannabis taxation make a significant contribution to state finances, but at the same time legalization will cut off a major source of funding for organized crime. It would also reduce the violence associated with the sale of this substance. Enough lives have been needlessly lost because of the criminalization of cannabis, which is already very present in Quebec society," explains Mr. Tyrrell.
