Jean-Talon by-election; one of the co-founders and members of the "J'y vais en métro" collective is running for the Green Party of Quebec.
Emilie Coulombe is one of the co-founders of the "J'y vais en métro" collective, a citizens' movement campaigning for the construction of a metro in Quebec City. Today, she is running under the banner of the Green Party of Quebec for the by-election to be held this December 2, 2019.
"The citizens of Jean-Talon and Quebec City have everything to gain by considering the metro option as the heart of the structuring network. It's a comfortable, fast and sustainable alternative. What's more, the metro's modular capacity makes it possible to meet ambitious GHG reduction targets by accommodating all motorists who wish to travel by other means. It's also the most cost-effective option in the long term," she declared during her speech at the campaign launch on Sunday.
For the Green Party of Quebec and its candidate, this election has one message to get across: we need to encourage mass investment in public transport, if we are to face up consistently to the environmental challenges facing us. Far from being a constraint on growth, the green transition offers numerous opportunities for economic development, and encourages us to find innovative solutions with a view to sustainable and responsible development.
