On Tuesday April 30, the leader of Quebec's Green Party visited McGill University to support a student encampment demanding an end to McGill's support for Israeli companies and organizations.
"As a Montrealer, I'm delighted to see that the first encampment in this movement in Canada has been set up in our city. All over the world, people are rising up to say no to apartide, no to violence and no to the American war machine. The Green Party of Quebec supports this movement and the McGill encampment.
This week, the leader of the Green Party of the United States, Jill Stein, was arrested on the campus of Washington University as part of these peaceful demonstrations, which were violently repressed by the police.
"The message I have for the McGill leaders who called for law enforcement intervention is that they are on the wrong side of history. They are complicit and actively involved in supporting and legitimizing an ongoing genocide. Police intervention on campus will only galvanize the movement. It's time for McGill to expose its financial ties to Israeli companies, end its ties and stop doing military research," concluded Alex Tyrrell.
