I have arrived in Calgary, Alberta ahead of the Green Party of Canada’s « special general meeting » that was called specifically to overturn the BDS resolution that was voted in by the membership at the party’s by-annual convention last August in Ottawa.

The past few months have been a time of vigorous debate within the Canadian Green Movement. There have been many attempts to smear and marginalize the people and organizations who support BDS and other progressive causes.

There is a lot of important issues that progressives need to fix within the federal organization. For one, I find it completely unacceptable that people who hold and voice openly racist opinions continue to be allowed to take part in the federal party’s internal discussions without reprimand. This needs to change immediately if the party has the slightest desire to improve the representation of minority groups, women and youth within the federal organization. As it stands now, all of these groups are severely underrepresented. It is not difficult to see why this is the case and actions need to be taken to correct the situation otherwise the status-quo will remain in place for years to come.
