The Green Party of Quebec firmly supports the urgent call for a coroner’s inquest into the tragic death of Ronny Kay at the hands of Montreal Police, which occurred one year ago this week. Ronny’s untimely demise has left his family, friends, colleagues, and community devastated, and the questionable circumstances surrounding his death demand a thorough and transparent investigation.
Ronny Kay, a cherished young leader in Montreal’s Chinatown community, was known for his unwavering commitment to volunteer work and his positive influence on those around him. He had no criminal record and no previous encounters with the law. Yet, while responding to a distress call, the SVPM shot and killed him, leaving his family in anguish. The community, Ronny’s family and the public deserve an explanation, justice and accountability.
