Alex Tyrrell is an eco-socialist activist that was elected as party leader of the Green Party of Quebec at the age of 25 in 2013. He has a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from the University of Concordia as well as a Diploma of College Studies from Dawson College in Mechanical Engineering Technologies. Under his leadership, the Green Party of Quebec has positioned itself on the left of Québec’s political compass, all while putting forward, the new green plan, that contains multiple progressive propositions on the entirety of Quebec’s political issues.

Tyrrell went into politics to defend the environment and social justice while injecting a positive energy into Quebec’s democracy. He campaigns against unbridled capitalism, for an equal distribution of wealth and for environmental protection on all fronts. He presents a unifying vision for Quebec that celebrates diversity and upholds its citizens to access quality healthcare, whatever their tax bracket.

As a nature enthusiast, Alex loves the outdoors, kayaking, cycling and photography. He lives in Montreal’s Pointe-Saint-Charles neighbourhood and is actively involved in improving the quality of life for Quebecers. For Alex Tyrrell, the fights for social justice and environmental protection are inseparable, and social movements must be able to rely on progressive political parties. Since 2012, he has run twelve times for a seat in the National Assembly of Quebec in several different regions. In 2018, he put the Green Party of Quebec on the map by fielding 97 candidates, with an average are of 34, and a 58% majority of female candidates. Over the next few years, Alex Tyrrell intends to continue his grassroots work for the development of the Green Party of Quebec, environmental protection and social justice!
