This morning, immodestly, after securing a majority government through Conservative defections, Carney is acting like a conservative; sacrificing the environment for short term economic gains.
First, he abolished the carbon tax; the single most important economic measure in place to reduce harmful emissions. Now, he has gone even further and cut the federal tax on gas.
This is a move that will further fuel consumption, reduce critical revenues for the government and put more cash into the pockets of big oil who will simply increase prices to make up for the tax cut.
This is not just bad economics, it’s a massive step backwards for the environment, for fuel efficiency and for GHG reduction targets.
Carney is a conservative.
