Green Party of Quebec leader, Alex Tyrrell, announces Jonathan Croteau as a new candidate in Arthabaska-Érable, a local candidate with a very solid profile who will put forward one of the most ambitious Green Party policies of this campaign : the creation of a public-funded network of grocery stores that will break the monopoly that conglomerates have on groceries and radically lower prices for consumers.
Jonathan Croteau comes from an agricultural background and is deeply committed to environmental and food issues. He embodies a new generation of Green candidates rooted in the realities of his region. Having grown up on a family dairy farm, he developed from a young age a concrete understanding of the challenges faced by Quebec’s farmers and the importance of a local resilient, and equitable food system.
With a bachelor’s degree in geography, a certificate in sustainable development, and a master’s degree in environmental management, Jonathan is currently pursuing a master’s degree in food security. His professional background as a project manager in water management and climate change adaptation, as well as his community involvement, demonstrate his commitment to community well-being and ecological transition.
“Jonathan has an exceptionnal profile. He deeply understands agricultural issues, he has an environmental expertise, and he is deeply committed to his community. This is the exact kind of MP that Québec needs to build a more just and ecological future for our province” -aDDS Alex Tyrrell.
Jonathan Croteau recently went on the Mentalité Verte podcast where he shared details about the Green Party of Quebec’s proposition to instore public grocery stores.
“The price of food is the number one factor that determines the food choices that people make in grocery stores. Recognizing the right to healthy food, putting in place a law preventing food waste and creating a free meal program for Québec schools are all essential steps to better our current Quebec food system. The alternative we offer of a public network of grocery stores gives back power to citizens, insures stable returns for farmers and builds a system that works to benefit our citizens.” -dECLARES Jonathan Croteau.
“Jonathan is a well established candidate in Arthabaska-Érable, that has an advanced expertise on food-related issues. He has everything he needs to deliver results in his circonsription, but also to reform the food system at a provincial level to help all of Québec’s citizens. Vote Green to deliver a clear message alongside Jonathan Croteau” -concludes Alex Tyrrell.
