Patrick Truong is entering politics to offer citizens an alternative and help broaden the available political options. A resident of Laval-des-Rapides, he wants to be actively involved in his community and participate in building a more ecological, inclusive, and forward-looking society. He sees politics as a way to learn, connect with the public, and advance ideas that bring about change.
Born in Laval, Patrick grew up in the region and completed his college studies at Cégep de Bois-de-Boulogne, where he was involved as a swimmer on the team. He graduated from the École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) with a degree in mechanical engineering in 2020. He also completed a certificate in sustainable energy development at UQAM last December. His academic path has led him to become involved in various student projects, including a wind-powered car club, and to develop a strong interest in energy and environmental issues. He currently sits on the board of directors of the Réseau ÉTS.
Professionally, Patrick works for an infrastructure engineering consulting firm, where he specializes in mechanical design and 3D printing. He also worked for three years in the brewing industry and has a passion for wine, having visited numerous vineyards. He is also a triathlon coach and regularly plays volleyball.
Patrick is also host of the Écologie & Société podcast, a platform where he gives a voice to people engaged in environmental and social projects. Through its episodes, the podcast addresses various themes such as degrowth, the impact of automation on workers, sharing of economic benefits, biodiversity and the role of ecosystems. He also spoke with journalists on the importance of analyzing major infrastructure projects, as well as with community stakeholders on the realities of homelessness. These discussions nourish his thinking and reinforce his desire to reduce polarization and promote an empathetic approach, particularly towards workers in sectors in transition such as hydrocarbons.
For him, the Green Party of Quebec represents a political formation that deserves to be better known and that offers concrete solutions to current environmental and social challenges.
At the local level, Patrick wants to strengthen the protection of wetlands and trees, and ensure that new construction respects green spaces. He wants to promote urban and community gardening, encourage active transportation such as cycling, and involve young people more in environmental initiatives, particularly through planting and education projects about plants and pollinators. He also proposes measures to reduce the cost of living, including promoting public food options and reducing plastic use.
