Hailey Roop is entering politics to help improve public services and reduce Quebec’s environmental footprint through green policies. During her university studies in the environmental field, she developed both an academic and activist commitment to ecological and social issues.
Through several internships, including with community gardens, an Éco-quartier, Global Green News, and the NDG Food Depot, she gained firsthand insight into some of the challenges Quebecers face today while becoming actively involved in environmental advocacy. In particular, she worked on campaigns aimed at increasing access to affordable, locally sourced food, promoting fossil fuel divestment on university campuses, and making public transit free.
A committed ecosocialist, Hailey wants to implement policies that allow people to live comfortably while protecting the environment, easing the very real financial pressures they face, and improving the quality of health care in Quebec. As a candidate in Westmount–Saint-Louis, she particularly wants to reduce the cost of living by creating public grocery stores, making public transit free, and lowering the cost of rent.
In her free time, Hailey enjoys advocating for environmental protection and exploring Quebec by bicycle. For Ms. Roop, every vote for the Green Party of Quebec demonstrates that our ideas resonate with the public and that Quebecers want change toward a safer, greener, and more affordable future. Every show of support also helps give these ideas a stronger voice in the public debate.
