Shawn-Brandon Rimpel is entering politics to better represent voices that are too often overlooked and to advance issues of social justice, environmental protection, and community well-being. Originally from East Montreal, he has lived in Repentigny since 2016, drawn to its community, strong sense of neighborhood, and the warmth of the people who live there. Today, he wants to help build a more inclusive and equitable society and make Repentigny an even better place to live.
Shawn-Brandon completed his college studies at Cégep de Bois-de-Boulogne in Social Sciences, with a focus on Law and International Relations. He is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Université de Montréal in Economics and Political Science, with a minor in Latin American Studies. His academic background has shaped his thinking on social inequalities, economic dynamics, and contemporary political issues.
His commitment is also reflected in his work as a psychosocial support worker with the organization Les amis de la déficience intellectuelle. He now works there on a daily basis and has witnessed firsthand the significant challenges involved in the inclusion of people living with intellectual disabilities, as well as the lack of funding in the community sector. This experience has strengthened his conviction that Quebec must invest more in these services in order to promote greater inclusion and support people in vulnerable situations.
He also sits on the board of directors of CELO, an organization where he previously completed an internship as a coordinator of a sociolinguistic and intercultural project. This involvement reflects his interest in integration, cultural diversity, and community participation.
The Green Party of Quebec closely reflects his progressive and ecosocialist values, particularly when it comes to affordable housing, combating discrimination, and protecting the environment. His environmental commitment is rooted in a climate justice perspective that recognizes inequalities between the Global North and Global South, as well as the differing impacts that economic and environmental choices have on the most vulnerable populations.
At the local level, Shawn-Brandon wants to fight discrimination and racial profiling while significantly improving public transit services in Repentigny, which he considers inadequate and underfunded. Among other things, he proposes increasing bus frequency and improving working conditions for drivers in order to encourage staff retention. He also wants to open a discussion on industrial conversion, particularly by redirecting certain activities toward the energy transition, so that the local economy aligns with the environmental and social values of the population. He also wants to address school dropout rates and strengthen the resources available to young people.
In his free time, Shawn-Brandon enjoys playing sports, reading, and getting involved in his community. He speaks French, English, and Creole.
For Shawn-Brandon Rimpel, every vote cast for the Green Party of Quebec demonstrates that our ideas resonate with the population, helps us gain a stronger presence in public debate, and contributes to funding the Green Party through the per-vote subsidy. For all these reasons, and many more, Shawn-Brandon Rimpel would be honored to have your support in the next election. Every vote counts!
