Quebec Green Party leader Alex Tyrrell marked International Women's Day today by recalling his party's feminist stance.

"At the same time, we denounce the perverse effects of the Quebec Charter of Values, which will weaken women from religious minorities. Obviously, Muslim women will be the most seriously affected by this unjust and revolting law. We totally reject this attempt to further marginalize these women, who already suffer from an abnormally high unemployment rate compared to the rest of the population. These women need more freedom and power, not less," he added.

"Finally, the Green Party of Quebec would like to take advantage of this Day to denounce rape culture and the hypersexualization of young girls, real scourges that must be addressed by all of Quebec society. We support all efforts aimed at combating these phenomena, which have recently become more widespread, and which call into question the equality of principle between women and men in Quebec and throughout the world", he concluded.
