Today, May 26, 2014, the Green Party of Quebec reaffirms its support for a rail bypass for the town of Lac-Mégantic.
The citizens of Lac-Mégantic were the victims of an avoidable tragedy. The idea of hazardous materials convoys running on the rails in this town after such a tragedy is a blatant lack of respect for the victims, the families, and the residents.
According to the Green Party of Quebec, municipalities should have the power to say no to the transport of hazardous materials and to any development project they do not wish to locate on their territory.
The Lac-Mégantic bypass is a golden opportunity for the Moreau ministry to demonstrate both its willingness to listen to the municipal community and its respect for the victims of the Lac-Mégantic tragedy.
