At a time when Quebec should be turning to public transit to fight climate change, our leaders are doing exactly the opposite.

On Wednesday, the STM announced an increase in public transit fares. Today we learn that the SAAQ will reduce car registration fees by 35% starting in 2016.

These changes are purely ideological, and are in line with the vision of our elected officials; a continuation of the use of the private car and a reduction in the budgets of public transit companies.

The Green Party of Quebec proposes to follow the example of many Quebec municipalities that have abolished public transit fares in order to promote the use of the service.

A major shift towards public transit is possible if we exercise our political weight.

Alex Tyrrell
Leader of the Green Party of Quebec
