Last stop on my tour of Abitibi-Témiscamingue and the Laurentians; a stop at the Residences Stephen Jake Beaven in Montcalm Quebec where a coalition of local residents built and paid for a fully functional medical clinic only to be told, after the construction was complete, that the provincial government would not be sending them a doctor.

The regions of Quebec are in desperate need of accessible healthcare, family doctors and preventative care. Instead of investing in rural health services during their time of need, Quebec’s Liberal government is doing the exact opposite by making deep cuts, centralizing lab tests in the big cities and pushing people towards private care by increasing wait times for basic services.
