@R:The local move is made necessary by the decision of the MP elected in the October 2018 general election, Sébastien Proulx, to leave political life. The man who was tipped to run for the leadership of the Quebec Liberal Party (QLP) came as a surprise in August when he announced his resignation for family reasons instead.
"Since the federal election is over, it's time to give the people of Jean-Talon the opportunity to elect a representative to the National Assembly. That's why we've decided to call this by-election now," said Quebec Premier François Legault. "
