The leader of Quebec's Green Party has said that he is considering running to succeed Elizabeth May and that the party needs to develop a platform that the Canadian left can rally behind.

Although the federal Green Party leader has not confirmed that she plans to step down, a group of party members, including Alex Tyrrell, launched a petition last week calling for an open leadership contest to ensure the party's "long-term prosperity".

Under Mr. Tyrrell's leadership since 2013, the Quebec Greens have experienced a shift to the left that he hopes will also occur at the federal level.
