Montréal, January 15, 2020 - Aujourd’hui, Alex Tyrrellthe Leader of the Green Party of Quebec, has announced that he will run for the leadership of the Green Party of Canada. The National Executive of the Green Party of Quebec wishes him the best of luck and hopes that this campaign will spread the ecosocialist vision of the Green Party of Quebec across Canada. The members of the National Executive specify that the Green Party of Quebec will remain neutral during the race and will give equal visibility to all candidates for the federal leadership.
During the leadership race, Alex Tyrrell's responsibilities to the Quebec Green Party will be slightly reduced.

Il s’agit d’Alice Sécheresse andHalimatou Bahtwo great activists, spokespersons and former candidates of the Green Party of Quebec who will ensure that the Green Party of Quebec remains at the forefront of the environmental movement during the race for the federal leadership.
Should Alex Tyrrell win the federal leadership race, the Provincial Council of the Green Party of Quebec will appoint an interim leader. A permanent leader will be elected at the next Green Party of Quebec political convention, scheduled for June 4-6, 2021, in Montreal. If, on the other hand, Alex Tyrrell remains as leader of the Green Party of Quebec after his campaign on the federal scene, a vote of confidence on his provincial leadership will take place in June 2021. The choice of these convention dates was recently approved by a 95 % majority vote of the National Council.
The PVQ National Executive also mandated a budget committee to address the PVQ's 2018 finances, following the publication of an anonymous Facebook page targeting the leader of the Green Party of Quebec with several allegations about the party's financial management during the 2018 election year.
Ce comité budgétaire composé de deux membres de l’Exécutif national ainsi que de l’agent officiel du parti a examiné attentivement les finances de l’année 2018 et a conclu que la gestion des fonds a été saine et responsable, considérant la charge administrative importante, des ressources limitées mises à la disposition du parti ainsi que le défi considérable d’organiser une campagne électorale à l’échelle nationale.
Given a significant increase in party revenues following the 2018 election, more administrative procedures have been put in place and enhanced by the National Executive to ensure efficient, rigorous and transparent financial management.
The National Executive therefore considers the allegations made against the party leader to be unfounded, and points out that the party has acted in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.
