The leader of the Green Party of Quebec, Alex Tyrrell, and Vincent Aquin-Belleau, candidate in Marie-Victorin, spoke this Monday in Longueuil about the proposed construction of two seedling factories on arable land near the St-Hubert airport. The construction of this vertical Goodleaf farm in Longueuil will lead to the loss of land with excellent agricultural potential.
L’entreprise Goodleaf souhaite créer un projet de serre verticale sur des terres agricoles à la frontière entre Longueuil et Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville. Bien que le projet semble intéressant et qu’il s’agit d’une belle initiative, le Parti Vert du Québec estime que cela ne devrait pas se faire sur des terres agricoles de très bonne qualité. Le PVQ souhaite favoriser l’agriculture locale à proximité des centres de consommation, mais en se déplaçant directement sur le site, les représentant du parti ont constaté que le champ agricole était complètement envahi par des compagnies logistiques de camionnage et de toutes sortes d’autres choses qui sont en train de saccager les terres agricoles.
The Green Party of Quebec supports a moratorium on the dezoning of agricultural land in both rural and urban areas. The development of this land is an essential pillar of local food production and the energy transition. We cannot afford to sacrifice farmland for real estate projects and private interests.
