Today, the Green Party of Quebec is in Temiscamingue, Qc to meet with residents of Lake Kipawa who are opposed to a rare earth mining project.

Rare earths are a group of minerals used, among other things, to make batteries for hybrid and electric cars.

While the Marois government says it wants to invest extremely large sums of money in private electric cars, it completely ignores the local environmental consequences of their actions.

100% of the ore produced during his project will be sold to Toyota. The open-pit mining process requires tons of sulphuric acid per day. It also produces radioactive waste and acidic water that is stored in mining basins.

Increasingly, the government seems to want to allow projects that are extremely dangerous for the environment in the name of economic development and « job creation ».

Are we ready to sacrifice Quebec?
