Today I visited a company that recycles mattress

During our meeting, Éric Castro (the owner) informed me that among his many branches across Canada, the United States and France, Quebec is one of the jurisdictions where the least subsidies are available for this type of recycling.

Currently, thousands of used mattresses are sent to Quebec landfills without recovery of the metal, wood, plastic, and fabric in the mattresses.

Currently, citizens and companies who want to dispose of their mattresses in an environmentally friendly manner pay a fee of $5-$10 per mattress to have them recycled.

A simple eco-tax of $10 per new mattress could support a huge recycling industry. Imagine the number of local jobs that could be generated this way.

If we are going to exploit oil to « create jobs » why not exploit our recyclable waste?
