One conservative staff member has been sentenced to 9 months in jail for for election fraud. After three years of sub-standard and non transparent investigations, there are still many unanswered questions. It is probable that many more people should be in jail for what took place in the 2011 election.

What’s even worse is that Sona has never come clean about exactly what happened, who was involved, or who ordered him to carry out these criminal acts. The chances that Sona acted alone are slim to none. This scandal likely goes much further. If rapid action is not taken by civil society there is a chance that the conservative party will encourage other young staffers to commit criminal acts in the 2015 federal election.

In my opinion the conservative government would be happy to trade imprisonment of their young staffers for another four years of unchecked rule, aggressive resource extraction and corrupt back room politics.

If the Canadian government wants to claim that their electoral process is sound, legitimate and deserves the trust of Canadians then they should immediately introduce legislation to crack down on election fraud, increase the investigative powers of elections Canada and announce a FULL PUBLIC INQUIRY into the robocall scandal.

Stephen Harper should be forced to testify and should be brought to justice the same way his junior employee was. Let’s make sure the Canadian public does not forget about what they have done.
