The first year of the Couillard government is celebrated today.
This period was marked by a significant decline in environmental protection, social equality and access to essential public services. We have a government that imposes austerity measures on a scale that the Charest administration would not have dared to propose.
If we had to settle for just one benefit in the election of the Couillard government, it would be the abandonment of the policy of excluding religious minorities as proposed by the PQ.
This government is deepening economic inequalities to the benefit of citizens and businesses with the highest incomes. It is giving major gifts to multinational corporations on the backs of the middle class and low income people, who are the targets of radical austerity measures.
Yet the Government of Quebec has all the means and resources needed to improve our public health care system, to expand public transit systems and to reinvest in education and public services.
It has become very clear that the Harper and Couillard governments share exactly the same political ideology and use well-known strategies to defeat the machinery of government and the social safety net as quickly as possible. The goal of this attack on the machinery of government is the privatization of essential services to the benefit of big business.
We in the Green Party of Quebec are proud of the eco-socialist option that we have offered to the people in the 2014 election. We are now stronger and more determined than ever. I would like to offer my sincere thanks to our entire team who are working very hard to get our message across.
Preparations for the 2018 election are well underway, and together we are able to build a greener, fairer and more democratic society. Over the next few years, we will work hard to make our innovative proposals for Quebec heard while opposing the neo-liberal policies of this government infiltrated by private interests.
