This Monday, April 20, the Green Party of Quebec reiterates its support for cannabis legislation and the pursuit of a non-criminal approach to the problems of illicit substance use.
« The time has come for the Government of Quebec to follow the example of the many American states such as Colorado, Washington and Alaska that have all legislated in favour of legalizing the production, sale and consumption of cannabis, » said Alex Tyrrell, leader of the Green Party of Quebec.
« Not only will the taxation of cannabis contribute significantly to the state’s finances, but legalization will also cut off a major source of funding for organized crime. It would also have the effect of reducing violence related to the sale of this substance. Enough lives have been needlessly lost because of the criminalization of cannabis, which is already very present in Quebec society, » explains Mr. Tyrrell.
