Congratulations to Omar Khader on his release from prison. For far too long the Harper government allowed the US government to illegally detain, torture and abuse M. Khader’s human rights.
Khadr was forced into becoming a child soldier by his father and at 15 years old he was wounded on the battlefield in Afghanistan and taken into custody by american soldiers. He was the illegally detained, tortured and submitted to an unfair military trial on foreign soil.
Canada has mistreated many people like Omar Khadr and Maher Arar under the guise of « national security ». Leading up to the federal election voters should be aware of the many unintended consequences that reactionary anti terrorism legislation such as bill C-51 and other measures supported by both Justin Trudeau and Stephen Harper can have on the population.
