This morning I was on CBC Daybreak with Mike Finnerty to discuss the possibility of banning single use plastic bags in the city of Montreal.
I was joined by a representative of the plastic industry, who is strongly opposed to the ban. In many other jurisdictions the plastic bag industry gone as far as to take legal action against governments trying to impose bans. To date these efforts have been unsuccessful.
Single use plastic bags have been successfully banned in Austin Texas, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Portland.
The Green Party of Quebec is proud to support the proposed ban for the city of Montreal and we will be taking part in the public consultations later this month while continuing to oppose the special interests of the greedy, self serving and toxic petro plastic industry.
