Montreal – It is with great optimism that Alex Tyrrell will present the Green Party of Quebec’s brief on June 3 as part of the public consultation on the issues and impacts of the ban on single-use shopping bags.

According to the Green Party of Quebec, the time has come to move forward with a complete ban on single-use plastic bags combined with significant pricing for other forms of single-use bags.

« Case studies show us that a ban combined with significant pricing on other types of single-use bags is one of the best ways to reduce our plastic consumption, » said Tyrrell.

According to statistics from the Quebec plastics industry, each citizen consumes an average of 122 plastic bags per year. These bags are used for an average of 20 minutes and take up to 400 years to degrade in landfills.

« The time has come for the City of Montreal to demonstrate its willingness to take action on the issues of over-consumption. The Green Party of Quebec urges the Coderre administration to act on this issue, » concluded Mr. Tyrrell.
