Hundreds of oil filled train cars and thousands of merchandise cars speed through the West Island every week. These trains run in close proximity to homes, businesses and intersections.
The federal government has cut back on railway safety and is now increasing the speed limit on the tracks that run through the west island.
It’s understandable that the mayor and local residents are upset. Why is the federal government taking chances with the safety of West Islanders?
Canadian Pacific Railway says it plans to increase the speed of some freight trains travelling through Beaconsfield, a plan that has local politicians and some residents on edge.
