I strongly support the federal government’s decision to offer compensation and a formal apology to child soldier Omar Khadr.

M. Khadr was tortured by the US government at the Guantanamo Bay for 10 years. During this period, the Harper government was complicit in his torture and refused to protect his human rights despite widespread criticism.

Under these circumstances the apology and compensation package are entirely appropriate.

As canadian citizens we must ensure that our government protects our rights. Hopefully this compensation package will make federal officials think twice before being complicit with torturous acts carried out by the US government.
