We have arrived in Edmonton and I have had some time to reflect on what we witnessed during our three-day tour of the Alberta Tar Sands; they are disgusting.
For far too long we have allowed this massive industrial project to grow unchecked. We have allowed the industry to operate with virtually no environmental regulations, with no respect for air quality, with no respect of indigenous rights, animal habitats, or the health and safety of their own workers.
Each and every one of us as Canadians has a responsibility to do everything we can to stop this unfolding environmental catastrophe. If we fail to act now, future generations will be left with a massive sacrifice zone, an economy that is directly dependent on environmental destruction and hundreds of billions of dollars in environmental debt.
We simply cannot allow this nightmare to continue. I have returned from this visit with memories that will last a lifetime and I am more determined than ever to continue my work fighting the Tar Sands and the oil industry as a whole. We are in a crisis and we need leadership. Join me as I continue advocating for a clean environment, social justice and indigenous rights.
In solidarity,
