– Manitoba Election Results –
Well, the Manitoba election has drawn to a close and we are out in Winnipeg picking up signs and absorbing the results. Unfortunately we did not end up electing the first Green in Manitoba’s history last night. Our candidate Dave Nickarz made considerable gains by obtaining an impressive 36% of the vote.
Although we did not achieve the outcome we were all hoping for, the Green Party of Manitoba has come a long way during this process. They ran a strong progressive campaign and offered Manitobans a clear alternative to the status quo. They supported workers rights, free public transit, reinvestment in healthcare, education and pledged to build a more equitable society. They went up against two big party machines without looking back and injected positive energy into the democratic process. They mobilized hundreds of volunteers, knocked on thousands of doors and really poured their hearts into every aspect of their work.
As Greens, we know what defeat feel like. We have been through this countless times before and we have always come out stronger and more determined than ever to continue advancing the values that bring us and our community together with the hopes of building a more sustainable and equitable future for the planet.
On behalf of the entire team at the Green Party of Quebec, I would like to thank all the candidates, volunteers and supporters of the Green Party of Manitoba and their leader James Beddome for their outstanding contribution to the advancement of the Canadian Green Movement, to the environment at to social justice.
It has been a pleasure to be part of this campaign for the past week. I have met so many passionate, intelligent and hard working people and I have learnt many lessons that will help us build the Green Party of Quebec into a force to be reckoned with in the 2022 Quebec election. It has been a great experience and I am really happy to have been a part of this campaign. I wish everyone all the best and hopefully we will all be working together again sometime in the near future!
In solidarity,
Alex Tyrrell
Leader of the Green Party of Quebec
