« I had an interesting discussion with the French Greens this morning about Canada’s experience with cannabis legalization.
The message I gave them was that legalization was the right thing to do, but that the framework has been unfair to those who have been criminalized for their involvement in the industry prior to legalization. Criminal records should be expunged, large corporations dominate the industry, and high prices at government stores have allowed the black market to continue. We also discussed waste and excessive packaging, rules regarding public consumption, and the possibility of legalizing all drugs to reduce harm while treating drug use as a health issue rather than criminalization.
