The Green Party of Quebec officially launched Alex Tyrrell’s candidacy in the riding of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce on Sunday, August 21, for this fall’s general election. On the occasion of this launch, Alex Tyrrell, leader of the Green Party of Quebec, took the floor to make a speech with his team and some of his confirmed candidates.

An eco-socialist activist elected leader of the Green Party of Quebec in 2013 at the age of 25, Alex Tyrrell is involved in politics to defend the environment and social justice by injecting positive energy into Quebec democracy. He campaigns against unbridled capitalism, for a more equal distribution of wealth and for the protection of the environment on all fronts. He presents a unifying vision in Quebec where diversity is celebrated and through which every Quebecer could have access to quality public health care, regardless of their means. In the 2022 provincial election, Alex Tyrrell is running in the riding of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, a riding he knows very well. “Notre-Dame-de-Grâce is a place that I have called home for 7 years, it is a place where I have deep family roots going back more than three generations. It’s where my parents grew up, where I got my first apartment and it’s where I went to university. A place where French, English and Allophone Montrealers live and work together. It’s a neighborhood where creativity, solidarity and positivism are at the forefront,” said Alex Tyrrell.

In his speech, Alex Tyrrell highlighted the strength of the green movement in NDG. Indeed, over the last six provincial elections, of all the beautiful places in the province, Notre-Dame-de-Grâce has been the community where more people have mobilized to support the Green Party of Quebec than anywhere else. “This is a place where our values of environmental protection, social justice and inclusive identity politics are widely supported and appreciated. We are the voice of diversity, of hope, of living together, of inclusiveness and reason. We are the party of the future. Notre-Dame-de-Grâce is the riding that could be the first place in the province to elect a Green Party of Quebec candidate to the National Assembly and thus bring about a change on October 3rd,” said the party leader in his speech.
